Frequently Asked Questions
-
How far from airport is Kandy House?
Three and a half hours by car from Colombo airport.
-
Do you have a spa?
Not a full spa but we have Massage and Reflexology on site and our infinity pool is more than luxurious. One-to-one Yoga and Qi Gong sessions can also be arranged.
-
Are rooms air-conditioned?
We have ceiling fans in every room and the cooler climate of the Kandyan hills rarely needs more than this. To quote a guest: "There is no air conditioning but I do think this would detract from the overall feel of the place if it were there. The fan in the room above the bed should be enough to keep you cool and in the early morning we found ourselves covering up as the area cooled in the shade of darkness."
-
Do you have driver accommodation?
We have small guesthouses within 20-30 minutes suitable for a driver and we are happy to make a booking on your behalf.
-
Is dinner included in the price?
Our European three-course dinner menu is freshly-cooked each night and costs $25. Twice a week we have a 10-course curry banquet for the same price.
-
Do you cater for special diets?
Being a Buddhist country, vegetarians very well catered for. We will also happily accommodate any food allergies – eg celiac, dairy intolerance etc. Please advise us on booking.
-
Do you take children?
Much as we love children, we don’t take under 12s. There are hotels in the Kandy area that cater better to their needs as the divine peace and quiet means we do not have much to amuse them here.
-
Is Kandy House wheelchair-friendly?
Although the house is not entirely wheelchair accessible, we have many wheelchair-users enjoy their stay with us. Two of our suites are on the same floor as dining room, Library and all-round-the house-verandah with seating areas and sofa. The bathrooms have very wide entrances and the toilets and showers are easily accessible. Our staff go out of their way to ensure you feel at home here. The infinity pool is the only area out of wheelchair reach but we will carry you down if possible!
-
Can non-residents come in for meals?
Non-residents are welcome to pop in for lunch or tea. Please call us by midday if you wish to join us for dinner.
-
Are you part of a chain?
Thankfully not! But our enchanting sister property, The Last House - a Geoffrey Bawa beach villa on the south coast is under the same management. The Last House website is in the pipeline. Please email for more information.
